BHS 50 Year Reunion

It was mighty fitting that I spent my morning in Bennington diving into the 18th century (see vlog) and my evening at a Burlington High School 50 year reunion at the Elk's Club.

As Tom Whitney, editor of "The Book of Years" pointed out, when you think of history in 50 year increments, it is not too long ago that the state of Vermont was being formed and the American Revolution was being fought.

We think of history as so ancient and dusty but we are living it every day, documenting it in our own way, telling our stories to anyone who will listen. History is a living, breathing, ever-changing entity, impossible to nail down and examine too closely.

To that end, I made FIVE videos documenting the 50 year reunion which accompany a story Cathy Resmer is writing for Seven Days that comes out tomorrow.

Below is the main video and if you feel like bathing in some history, you can watch the rest here:

PS Can you tell which 69 yr old deer hunter I have a crush on?

Terrifying. Everyone seems so jolly, but the music score captured how I feel thinking about who I might be at 69. It's very scary. How do I make sure that she is the person I hope to be and not the person I'm afraid I'll become? There are 40 years of potential "where did it all go wrong?" between us.

I have a gut feeling you will be the person you plan to be at 69. But I know what you mean, there is a lot of room for error. But maybe after 40 years, you start to care less and what is just is?

I think it will be creepy once people you know start dying. My granny's funeral was full of white haired people just waiting...and watching...and waiting...
