Volunteer Search for Nick

4/26/08: Middlebury College freshman Nicholas Garza has been missing without a trace since February 5th.

His family and friends organized a volunteer search to look for leads last Saturday.

Who is Nick Garza?

I spoke to Nick Garza's family and friends about who he is and they very compassionately told me about this very special person:

Vermont 3.0 is Stuck in VT

My uber cool and funky boss Paula worked her butt off to make this day happen. Everybody at 7 Days worked really hard to pull this day off - they kick serious ass.
Above, Paula is greeting people at the door and telling 'em where to go and what to do! The people never stopped coming, all 1,500 of them, it was a madhouse!

In other news, I climbed a belfry tower and nearly died. Then I caught a stomach bug and nearly died. Now I am getting unstuck from VT for a bit. Yeehaw!

We are off to SF for the AAN conference and Cathy and I will be giving our seminar on web video Thursday at 2ish so send us some good mojo.

Thanks to Steve Mease for the photo up top. That is me interviewing Noelle Bullion, a senior at Middlebury who I thought was just lovely! Please get stuck in VT and be a 7Days video intern Noelle!

Bye bye for now Green Mountains and hello ocean landscapes and breathtaking urban vistas!

7 Days Holiday Party

"Aren't my neck veins impressive?"

Holiday parties tend to suck balls so it is SO refreshing to work at a place that puts on AWESOME holiday parties.

I know it is SICK to say so but I love my job and I really respect and admire the people I work with. So there, I am a pansy, I admit it. You can see the entire picture album over on Facebook baby.

Happy 12th BDay 7 Days

Seven Days had an awesome pre-Art Hop party Friday, and I was there with my video camera to record the good times for posterity and snag some cool made to order t-shirts courtesy of Tick Tick.

Want to meet the editors/publishers/founders/superwomen of Seven Days, Pamela Polston and Paula Routly? Face to face and in "person"? Find out why they started this paper and how?

And while you're there, why not meet the rest of the eclectic 7 Days staffers and some of the well-wishing revelers. Grab a piece of crudité and stay a while.

Towards the end of the video, listen up for some van der Poll Dutch melodies. The apples do not fall far from the tree if you catch my drift...

Sigh, what a night! What a paper/media empire! Happy birthday ladies! I know you will survive the terrible teens with dignity and savoir faire!

Art Hop Party at Seven Days

It's Seven Days, you KNOW the party is gonna kick ass.

Don't be a square, be there.

PS Besides, what a great opportunity to snoop around the hallowed halls of the paper you love to read every week? I recommend a trip to the bathroom - two Hail Marys later, you won't be sorry.

Back to School

And here are the UVM videos to show-n-tell:

Invasion of the Students
The Drinking Age
The Freshmen Are Here (below)

Talking to these students brings me back, way back, to my freshmen year and that first scary day when I struck out alone wearing my hippie skirts.

I can even recall who my first friend was, and my first crush and how I found my first roommate and that mutant bug we killed our first night sleeping in the dorms. Memories...

BHS 50 Year Reunion

It was mighty fitting that I spent my morning in Bennington diving into the 18th century (see vlog) and my evening at a Burlington High School 50 year reunion at the Elk's Club.

As Tom Whitney, editor of "The Book of Years" pointed out, when you think of history in 50 year increments, it is not too long ago that the state of Vermont was being formed and the American Revolution was being fought.

We think of history as so ancient and dusty but we are living it every day, documenting it in our own way, telling our stories to anyone who will listen. History is a living, breathing, ever-changing entity, impossible to nail down and examine too closely.

To that end, I made FIVE videos documenting the 50 year reunion which accompany a story Cathy Resmer is writing for Seven Days that comes out tomorrow.

Below is the main video and if you feel like bathing in some history, you can watch the rest here:

PS Can you tell which 69 yr old deer hunter I have a crush on?

The Battle of Bennington Redux

Want to hear MORE about the Battle of Bennington? Listen to the Major General (why do I always have an urge to sing that?) HIMSELF tell you all the minuscule historical details!

Note to self, DO NOT give someone your card BEFORE you do an interview because then you have to look at your card the entire interview! Sort of kills the 18th century vibe...

Bennington Battle Day is Stuck in VT

It was windy and weird that day but the drive was worth it. I want to be a history reenactor when I grow up. Pretty please.
