These Lovely Le May Ladies know how to spice up an event. They wear stunning matching outfits, cause a ruckus where ever they go and take lovely photos with everyone they meet.
I want to be a Le May Sister when I grow up, I wonder if they take applications?
Recently, they visited the cabaret and blogged their tale! Thanks Lovely Ladies!

Let that be a lesson to you sonny jim: not an ice storm or even widespread power outages can stop the cabaret.
Seriously, these people blow me away. Town was transformed into an icy slush puddle last night but the cabaret folk shouldered forward and put on a lovely Casino Night party/fundraiser. When the lights were out, they mustered up candles and the atmosphere was ever so cozy.
And amazingly, brave souls not only ventured out into the treacherous gook, but they dressed up all swanky to play blackjack, roulette and poker. Thank you brave souls!
The highlight of the evening was Phinn and Teresa's playful striptease (above). Who knew how far they would go and how much we would see? Well, you had to be there but it was a treat. And the cockfight earlier in the evening was also highly entertaining.
You can see pictures at Flickr or Facebook. Viva la cabaret!

Like many things, it all started at City Market yesterday. First I spotted sweet, sweet Caroline in the frozen foods aisle. Then I encountered sultry Teresa amidst the dairy products (go see her in American Machine) and along came a sprightly Kathleen.
I should not have been surprised when a sun-kissed Beth emerged from the bread aisle but when I saw the other-worldly Roxanne in the check out line - well that was TOO MUCH!
I thought perhaps today would be back to normal but there I was munching in Stone Soup when dream team Phinn, Esse and her new Louise Brooks-bangs entered the picture. Moments later I was walking down Church St when a lovely Paula smooched me in passing.
After two days and 8 SpielPalast cast member sightings, I feel sure that something serendipitous is afoot - but what it is, only time can tell.
"It was once when I read a silly fairy tale, called The Three Princes of Serendip: as their highnesses travelled, they were always making discoveries, by accidents and sagacity, of things which they were not in quest of: for instance, one of them discovered that a mule blind of the right eye had travelled the same road lately, because the grass was eaten only on the left side, where it was worse than on the right—now do you understand serendipity?"

Oooh, my body hurts so bad. Is this what is feels like when you get old? When is nap time?
Saturday, July 21st, the Spielpalast Cabaret traveled a mighty long distance to Waitsfield to perform at the Big Picture Theater. Film director Eugene Jarecki had a blow out party for his wife Claudia's 40th birthday party.
The cabaret was supposed to be the surprise for German-born Claudia - but how exactly do you keep 20+ partially naked girls hidden? There were oyster shooters, fireworks, yummy chocolate cake, tons of booze and of course, a scantily clad cabaret doing their naughty show for the masses.
You can see the pics here. It was all a mad blur. I was nervous to perform again because I am out of shape and have been too busy to practice much. Plus, I had a scary new added solo singing bit and was frightened my voice might choke up under pressure. Egads, worries abounded! Our dressing room was a tent behind the stage door which led to one of the theaters. We had a scenic pond behind us and a playground in front of us. The grass got muddy with all of us tromping over it in heels and there were lots of bugs. Still, the cabaret is pretty flexible and can make a home just about anywhere. They brought out couches, gave us food and booze and everyone was happy as could be - and a little wet and muddy as well.
The rowdy crowd was into the show and I only screwed up two little dance bits (that I know of). My song went off beautifully and I was so pleased to be in the piece as it has always had a special meaning for me.
When the show was over we all patted each other on the back. It is hard to take a HUGE 20+ person show and cram it into a tent and onto a new stage in a movie theater with only 2 rehearsals. The band kicked ass, the lights were awesome, and the show was just SO much fun. The cabaret is just so god damn amazingly talented.
Afterwards, we hit the dance floor and shook the place UP. I was so happy to be DONE that I danced my ass off. Nicci and I did ridiculous dance routines and acted like utter fools. It felt awesome.
This morning I felt like death and had to drag my half alive body to Oakledge to shoot the Bocce Social. Tomorrow, I start teaching camp for the week! There is nothing like full days of 8-10 year olds to make you feel old and exhausted and drain every last ounce of your strength.
Aw, fuck it. I can sleep when I am dead.
PS And as of Tuesday, big changes are afoot. Knock on wood...

SpielPalast Cabaret pictures by Jordan Silverman that appeared in the Burlington Freepress with a ghostly greenish tinge. The online version is luckily green-tint-free.
The captions are entertaining. I love Laura's face (above) and love the fact that it was on the cover of the paper (sadly, with a greenish tinge).
Sigh, I miss the cabaret...I think it is finally hitting home that the fun ride is over.

Mika and I shared the third level of the Contois stairwell during our six shows of the cabaret. You might think that a Polish factory girl and a member of the underground French-Algerian resistance might not have much in common but I beg to differ.
Over the course of the past two tumultuous weeks, we shared a mirror, our make-up, munchies, our daily complaints (never enough sleep or food) and life stories. We checked each other's faces, underwear lines and stockings as they slowly became shredded remnants of their former selves.
There is an intimacy only girls changing can attain and I will miss our little cozy corner of the stairwell. I'll even miss a white-faced Mr Dingaling shushing us and the roving eyes of Contino Valentino Vespucci from the level above. If only that stairwell could talk...

I know, this blog has turned into Land of the SpielPalast but I honestly cannot help it. I can't get the songs out of my head, the twisted cabaret visions, they come to me at night! What to do? Lobotomy perhaps?
