Remembering Elliott

Three years ago on October 21st, musician Elliott Smith committed suicide by stabbing himself in the chest. He was just 34 years old and it is so sad to think of all the music he could have made if he had lived longer.

Below is a video of the random objects and notes left by mourners at his memorial wall in LA (the one he is standing next to above). One of the comments says, "Your biggest mistake was thinking you could relate." Ouch. Well Elliott, you did the best that you could which is all anyone can really do and you suceeded in relating to thousands of damaged people, for whatever solace that is worth.

Elliott Smith 1969-2003 RIP

I Love Elliott.

I think the autopsy is still "inconclusive," though. But I'm pretty sure he snuffed himself.

poor guy. he was such a fragile, fucked up soul. everytime i heard him play live there was such an unusually magical feeling in the air (especially unusual for the hard-hearted hipster set who frequented his shows), like we all knew we were listening to someone that wasn't long for this world and we were straining to hear every sound before his light snuffed out. sigh...
