Lordy, I can barely keep track of it all. Between Facebook status updates, learning TweetDeck and Twitter, producing my weekly vlog Stuck in VT for Seven Days and posting it to Facebook, YouTube, Blip and VCAM and re-running my cable access show The Deadbeat Club - which way is up and which way is down?

And also, a "new" rerun of The Deabeat Club started last night. I watched it with my mom and we had a hoot. As mortifying as it can be watching yourself blab like a mad hatter, DBC has been an interesting way for me to judge days gone by.

I get to hear myself talking about my dream job making a weekly arts and culture video featuring local VTers and then voila, 2 years later, I am living the dream baby!

Last night was an episode from the early days of Stuck in VT when I was trying to figure out what the hell I was doing. Stucks on the tremendous 07 VDay blizzard, Cindy Sheehan and Sonic Youth - I look back on those days fondly since I am now on Episode 118. Speaking of, I better get back to work. Like the rest, this episode refuses to edit itself.

And a new rerun of The Deadbeat Club playing this month as well! It is the New Year's episode from 2007, what fun. It features Suzanne M0nroe trying to hijack my show and lots of talk about the end of the world. Wow, that sounds just like this year! Apparently, I always think about the end of the world when a new year arrives?! Little did we know in 2007 just how impressively shitty 2009 would be...eek.

In 2007 I started vlogging for the first time but had not quite gotten the format down. Those early vlogs were really long, free form and experimental - basically me babbling. And in this episode I talk about how I wanted to make a well-structured vlog in which I interviewed VTers about their lives and what do you know? I did it. ;)

It is always nice watching old DBC and seeing how much has changed, especially when I am feeling like I move in slow mo and never get anywhere.

In the 2 years since I made that episode, I've produced 110 segments of Stuck in VT, interviewed just about everyone in town, got featured on Boston's The Chronicle and written about in the Freeps, not to mention having Stuck viewed all over the world. I got my dream job at Seven Days, bought a weird old house, and am continually excited by the work I do for the very first time in my life.

Who knows what 2009 will bring, but please let Mad Max be a way down the road. I still have to tile the front porch and figure out how to fit a ping pong table in the basement. I have plans, so many.

Hopefully The Deadbeat Club, the cable access show I have been making for three years with my family is not dead, just snoozing.

It is the summer after all so it makes sense that we should be in re-runs. Still, it has been a while since I managed to find the time to make a new episode which worries me. Now that my job is making videos for a living (yes, I still pinch myself when I say that in case I have to wake up), it's hard to justify more time spent in front of a computer screen.

But there have been some talks amongst the deadbeats of another show so hopefully I can scrounge together the editing time. After all these years, making the show is a sort of family tradition.

Meanwhile, it is fun watching the re-runs. This month is an episode from 2 years ago. There is a countdown of Dizzy Dames plus a montage I am super fond of - hmmm, I wonder why!? Plus some new kitten madness, a dance number I did with Amy and some celeb trash news.

Howl of Howl's Moving Castle is our babe of the month. That's right, a cartoon character based on a novel character. Could we BE any more nerdy??!?! Oh and on a special note, the Howl montage might give you a seizure!

Oh yes, tune in to your dear ol Channel 15, also known as VCAM for some of the latest episodes of Stuck in Vermont (thanks Bear for the time slots!).

During the month of June you can see May STVT episodes 23-27: Urban Dance Complex, Liminal Engagement, SpielPalast Cabaret, Black Fly Festival and VT City Marathon. What a line up!

My plan is to air the most recent episodes for the following month. This will keep it fresh and up to date. The show is a 1/2 hour with a snazzy new intro by yours truly. The more episodes I do, the more I learn about storytelling and the more I love this state and all the people in it. Shucks!

It could be the sleep deprivation talking (yes, part of the special mixture of Stuck in VT is all nighters - weekly ones) but I really, really love what I do. For the first time in my life!

That transvestite empath in SF at the hole in the wall Russian tea room was right, I did find an artistic job working with aritistic people in my early 30s. I thought she was just blowing smoke up my ass! Hurrah!

Well, I only had to squeeze out a few guts, tears and bloody nipples to finally finish the May episode of The DBC. And look at that, it is only one month late ! Not bad at all for a deadbeat!

The Deadbeat Club Is Not Dead

Here is the thing. I blame Casey and Brooke.

That's right, if that pint of Bud Light to celebrate/mourn their impending departure had not turned into FOUR bottles of bubbly-something-or-other, well, I would not be so damned late on this May episode of The Deadbeat Club.

Ok, perhaps blaming Casey and Brooke is silly (very...sniffle). Maybe I will blame the SpielPalast Cabaret and all those days of rehearsals and dancing around in my skivvies.

Or better, yet, I could blame Stuck in Vermont for all those exciting vlog assignments and late nights spent editing.

Or I could just shut up and say that if anyone watches The Deadbeat Club anymore (harder to do now that my YouTube channel was suspended), there is a May episode coming. I swear. It is shot and everything.

I just need a smidgen of time to edit it. And it will most likely air in June. I find May and June to be pretty similar months when it comes down to it. I mean really, what is the difference?

Yes, I am a lazy loser. I know this to be true. But I wouldn't be true to my deadbeat roots if I wasn't, right!? And this heavenly hot weather makes editing in a dark, cold basement that much harder.

In other news, be on the look out for a Stuck in VT show airing on VCAM. Just imagine seeing your favorite VT culture scene tid bits without the crunchy, pixelated mess!

To quote the amazing Colin the Magog who scared the pants offa me whilst I was riding my bike Thursday, "Yow!"

PS In other news, when bloggers collide! It is so nice to see bloggers in three dimensions talking and drinking and smoking and wearing fancy shoes and earrings. Bloggers Unite and Drink Booze! Yow!

VCAM Goes Vroom

There are many exciting things happening over at Vermont Community Access Media these days. Their website is looking super snazzy and their blog details some of the hot changes a foot: Karen is leaving (we'll miss you Karen!!), Seth is stepping up (and getting busy!), RETN is moving in and Burlington Telecom is airing Channel 15! Cha-cha-cha-changes!

And if that isn't enough to get you all hot and bothered, VCAM has put together an awesome commercial advertising all the amazing work they do and the services they offer. This puppy is slick and it is gonna get the word out there in the best possible way.

Good job Seth, Bill and Bear! It looks and sounds (thanks Carrigan) fabulous - and I swear I am not just saying that 'cause I was lucky enough to be in it...erhm, well, maybe that is some of it but it is still really, really good!

In this modern age of mass-media saturation, it warms the heart to know that there is a place we ALL can go to learn how to create, edit, compress and upload videos with the help of a very competent and friendly staff. Where else can someone walk in off the street and broadcast what they need to say on air to the local community?

Like the tagline says, Don't just consume media, make it!

DBCV12: VCAM Shoot

Seth had a great idea to make a VCAM (Vermont Community Access Media) commercial that will eventually air on local channels. So they asked some of their producers to come down and shoot some bits at the VCAM studios. Bill even blogged about it here and here (the second is a post about THIS post! PGUON).

Saturday was rainy and the sky was dark and overcast. Inside the cozy VCAM studios, Seth, Bill and Brad were working like busy bees to get each shot set up to perfection. My bit was pretty simple. I sat at an IMac and uploaded videos to YouTube. What, no lines?

The funny thing was, doing nothing was really hard to do! When you have a face like a clown and energy pouring out of your eyeballs, sitting still at a computer without making any faces is really tough! So if I make it into the final cut of the commercial, I will probably have an awkward pained expression which is what happens to me when I try to appear "normal" (just how does one do that anyways)?

The other amusing thing about this shoot was how professional it was. Each shot took much time to light and set up. This was especially humorous when compared to the final installment of The Offasty that we were shooting haphazardly at work last week.

Because we were in the process of moving offices, attending Xmas parties and "working," we had to shoot little bits here and there on the DL. In my head was a vague rough draft of the plot and I tried really hard to check off shots mentally and keep continuity roughly in check. Each of us took turns holding the camera, including my mom who happened to be there.

So the final scene has awful coverage, crappy ass lighting and is being held by a 72 year old hand. Still, we never would have managed to get this thing done if we had played by all the rules, lit properly, locked off shots and set things up perfectly.

I guess in the long run, I am more of a guerrilla filmmaker than a fancy professional. Granted, I know I need to learn the "right" way to shoot things so then I can actively choose to do things as I please. I hope to learn the "right" way to do things in school this year!
