Happy Birthday Mum

I am not sure how this is possible, but my mother is 74 years old today. And she can still out walk me. Damn her and her healthy lifestyle.

The woman walks 5 miles a day and eats daily servings of kale or collards that she grows in her garden. No wonder she is so fit. She had better live until she is 102.

My mom continues to amaze me daily: growing, learning, switching it up, staying fresh and new. One day she is reading every book Marcel Proust ever wrote (in French mind you) and the next she is naming every tree species we walk past and growing lettuce in the living room.

Did I mention that she recently took up the accordion and lives in a lean-to on the lake all summer long? And let's not forget the 6 years of her life that she devoted to fine arts and the fact that her mural of UVM facilities workers is hanging up in Waterman.

And are you aware that she has been a full-time UVM student since she retired and gets A+s? Oh and did I forget to mention her stint as a nude model for figure drawing classes?

And then there were the 3 years that she starred in my cable access show The Deadbeat Club. People still stop me on the street to say, "I just love your mother." Join the club.

I grew up knowing that my mother was superhuman. It is not as easy as you may think having a Super Mother who can mend any tear, answer any question and heal any wound. No one else really measures up and those are some pretty spectacular shoes to fill.

Still, I am glad to have this Sparkly Diamond in my life even if I will never know as much as her. I wish I could download all her knowledge about French, music, art, sewing, knitting, gardening, cooking, and life. But I guess I have to figure this stuff out for myself. Sigh - I will never sound as good playing the flute.

I moved back here from California to hang out with my mom who refuses to ever leave Vermont. Now that I am back by her side, Wild Horses Couldn't Drag Me Away:

Smittens at the Skinny

Two of my favorite things combined, The Skinny Pancake AND The Smittens - OH BOY! I had a Smitten-filled, Nutella-melted, whipcream-topped crepe of a weekend.

First I got to see them at the Skinny Pancake Friday and then they were at the Jr Iron Chef Competition Saturday. Smitten Overload!

I can't wait until their new album is out. Their songs make me so glad and I can't stop from smiling, singing along and dancing...

PS Mike took that picture of me and it was the one time the entire night I was not smiling. I think it is the investigative journalist in him, has to catch the real, not the fluff.

PPS That top picture is Let's Whisper which is 40% of The Smittens.

Shelburne Farms Walk

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!

When the weather gets warm, the family goes to Shelburne Farms. And even if Eva whines about long walks, her mother keeps her motivated.

My mom is turning 74 this Monday. How is this even possible? When I look at her I still see the tentative, happy face of a 7 year old. I am so glad to know her and so pleased to live close enough to see her often. Thankyouthankyouuniverse.

Lucy Goes Swimming

Oh boy, I can't wait till it gets warm and I can go swimming too!

Hello Spring and New Couch!

Lake Walk with Sachie and Lucy

When the weather is good, we go walking! The lake is such a good place to walk and meet dogs. Sachie has very fierce hair and the lake is still filled with ice chunks.

Ultimate Frisbee is Stuck in VT

Seriously, these frisbee people are crazy!? They dash around the court like happy hop heads! I get tired just watching. Wish I was in shape enough to run after them because it honestly does look like fun.

When shooting this video I ran into about 5 people I have interviewed in other vlogs. Granted, this is a small town but still, that is a bit funny. Apparently, everyone you know and his brother all play ultimate. Well OK then!

"I Figured You Out"

Mary Lou Lord saved this Elliott Smith song from the trash. Her version is achingly sweet and his is just plain heartbreaking. Who hasn't felt this before?

Cheesy Love Themes

And I heart each and every one, especially when Marrina wears a lacy white dress!
