Sunset Bliss

I've been working hard all summer but it is all worth it for storybook moments like this. Start at the bottom and work your way up for a taste of Lake Champlain at her finest.

People say you will get he "duck itch" if you swim in her murky algae-coated waters but it is a risk I will gladly take, daily if need be. Quack.

Stuck in VT 88: Leahy & Batman

7/12/08: "The Dark Knight" premiered in Montpelier Saturday, days before it's general release.

We have Vermont's own Dark Knight to thank for this rare event - US Senator Patrick Leahy who has a small cameo in the film.

Patrick Leahy grew up in Montpelier Vermont.  Blind in one eye, he spent much of his free time reading comics at the Kellogg-Hubbard Library.

Years later, he is the library's favorite Superhero, donating proceeds from his Batman film appearances and raising money from this recent screening of The Dark Knight.

Leahy sits down with the library's Comics Clubs to talk about Batman, "The Dark Knight," and why he loves reading.

2 Senators, Batman and Supergirls

Saturday was a wild day.

Here are the highlights:

Interviewed 2 Vt Senators, Bernie Sanders on Church St and Patrick Leahy in Montpelier.

Had assistance interviewing people and filming my Intros/Outros from Maggie and Anna (below).

Maggie is a member of the Supergirls Comics Club (run by the most awesome fellow comic book nerd Aubry) at the Kellogg-Hubbard Library - I wish I could join too.

Says Maggie (wearing my headphones below) in a careful-not-to-hurt-my-feelings-sort-of-tone, "You are doing a great job. But try to SLOW DOWN A LOT."

9 year old girls are SO SUPERGIRL cool.
Appreciated Ben T Matchstick's most awesome Batman haircut.

Enjoyed a tasty Mexican meal with Zombie Fighters (seen briefly in a former Stuck, Burlington Zombie Walk), post-apocalyptic kickballers (future Stuck?) Aubry and Pete, Ben the Beloved Storyteller and Cardboard Wielder and my Joker-loving sister.

Saw the premiere of The Dark Knight DAYS BEFORE everyone in the world got a chance to see it - KABLAMMO!

This Batman event was covered in The NY Times, USA Today and the Boston Globe. VT MADE HEADLINES!! Thanks Leahy!

Rocked out to Space Tiger.

Talented 9 yr old band leader Aiden helped me fix my camera mike mount.

Bought a cool 10 in 1 tool at a hardware store to keep in my camera bag for the next time something needs screwing.

Interviewed the Mayor of Montpelier and Scudder Parker and some other political big wigs.

Ate FOUR cheese puffs IN A ROW without getting reprimanded.

GADZOOKS Batman what a day! Thanks for being so entertaining Montpelier!

Back in Burlap, I spent all of Sunday recovering...and digitizing...

Stuck in VT 87: Warren 4th of July Parade

7/4/08: Thousands of people stormed the small town of Warren Friday for their 60th Annual 4th of July Parade.

Everyone was there, a camera-wielding Bush, candidates for governor, a Bummer of a Hummer, gigantic puppets, tractors and characters a plenty.

Rural Vermont is not as quiet as you may think.  Boiling in the backwoods are activists fighting for political change, energy independence and the POWER of green.

Happy 4th

We celebrated on the roof with a sunset, a keg and cornhole. The bugs were a biting but the beer kept a flowing.

The next day we got up waaaay too early for the Warren 4th of July parade (wacky VT vlog to follow).

This weekend I spent way too much time in the sun (ouch), way too much time underwater being drowned by a sea creature, way too much cash on dinners out (and I maxed out my bank account, oops) and way too much time indulging with the Sunday Times (heaven).

Polluted lake water is sloshing around my noggin.

Now it is time to go back to work.

Stuck in VT 86: Tom Messner

6/23/08: Tom Messner has been delivering the weather with a smile for 18 years on WPTZ/NewsChannel 5.

His grandma assumed he would grow up to be a chatty salesman.  Little did she know, Tom would one day be 'selling' the weather to the masses with his trademark grin.

Messner is so well-known that he can't get very far without being recognized.  That is the thing about being a popular weatherman, people feel like they know you since you come into their living room every night.

What many people want to know is, what lies beneath that jovial smile?  Is Messner legit?  You be the judge.

I, for one, am happy to know Messner is out there representing VT for us on TV shows like Regis and Kelly and the Today Show.  GO TOM!

Will I Ever Tire of Clouds?

No, never, nuh uh, not gonna happen. As hellish as air travel is these days, it is worth it to fly with the clouds.

Tear Stained Pages

Back from Albuquerque and an emotionally draining weekend that was also strangely uplifting.

How do you say goodbye to a 19 year old? One you never even met? With the Magnetic Fields and Busby Berkeley of course:

I sang this song the entire grueling, 3-legged, all-day trip to New Mexico:

After spending three late nights editing his memorial montage, I saw Nick's face in the clouds.
